CURRENT NEWS Vienna, 27 March 2007 PRESS RELEASE NO. 2/2007 SEMPERIT OPENS TWO NEW PLANTS IN CHINA • Grand opening celebration with Federal Minister of Economics Martin Bartenstein Vienna, 27 March 2007 – Semperit AG Holding opened both of its new plants for handrail and hydraulic hose production in Shanghai, China, on 26 March 2007. Semperit inaugurated the new manufacturing centres in China in the presence of Austria’s Federal Minister of Economics Martin Bartenstein and high-ranking representatives from the Chinese government and business world. “The opening of our two new Chinese plants, Shanghai Semperit Rubber & Plastic Products and Semperflex Shanghai, marks an important milestone in the growth of our group. We intend to solidify and successively expand our position on the future market of China from our base in Shanghai,” explained Rainer Zellner, chairman of the management board of Semperit AG Holding, during his opening speech in China. Federal Minister of Economics Martin Bartenstein praised Semperit’s commitment in China: “Establishing Austrian companies in the growth market of China is essential for securing Austria’s competitive strength over the long term. Semperit is playing an important pioneering role in this.” The new factories are equipped with the most modern machinery. The production processes and product quality comply strictly with the worldwide Semperit standards. In the final set up the total investment in both plants will be around €40 million. More than 500 people will be employed by the two companies then. THE MOST MODERN HANDRAIL FACTORY IN THE WORLD With the new handrail plant Semperit now operates the world’s largest and most modern handrail manufacturing facility in the world. At the final stage Shanghai Semperit Rubber & Plastic Products will have a capacity well above one million meter of handrails. In addition to its primary market focus on China, Shanghai Semperit Rubber & Plastic Products will also serve international customers. HIGH-QUALITY HOSES FOR CHINA The main reason for the construction of the new hydraulic hose plant was to supply the Chinese market with high-quality products. Semperit’s decades of hose manufacturing know-how went into the planning of the plant systems and machines. As a result Semperflex Shanghai is the group’s most modern production site in this division. After the further expansion of the plant in the coming years Semperflex Shanghai will have a capacity of about 25 million meters of hydraulic hoses a year. A JOINT VENTURE BETWEEN SEMPERIT AND SRIT TRANG Shanghai Semperit Rubber & Plastic Products and Semperflex Shanghai are joint venture companies between Semperit Technische Produkte GesmbH and Sri Trang Argo-Industry Plc and are hence based on a long lasting and successful partnership.
